Join us TONIGHT! bit.ly/BrooklynMobilizationPPCThe New York State Poor People’s Campaign is organizing a powerful delegation of poor and low-wealth people for the Poor People’s and Low Wage Workers’ Mass Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls on June 18! We march on June 18 because any nation that ignores nearly half of its citizens is in a moral, economic and political crisis. There were 140 million people who were poor or one emergency away from economic ruin before the pandemic. Since March 2020, while hundreds of thousands of people have died, and millions are on the edge of hunger and eviction, and are still without health care or living wages, billionaire wealth has grown by over $2 trillion.Brooklyn for Peace and the PPC are organizing Brooklyn based faith communities and organizations to build solidarity and get on a bus or buses leaving from Brooklyn. Information and details regarding this mobilization will be discussed at this meeting. Please join us and learn how you and your community can participate!

Brooklyn For Peace

Brooklyn For Peace was out at Grand Army Plaza today, urging a diplomatic settlement in Ukraine, rather than a prolonged conflict as military escalation is pursued. They also protested proposals to drastically increase military spending on top of an already bloated Pentagon budget, using the Russian invasion as rationale. While President Biden’s Build Back Better is stalled, billions upon billions of dollars are being poured into the explosive cauldron of Ukraine in what appears an escalation of hostilities rather than seeking an early end to the war through calls for a cease fire and diplomacy. The threat of a nuclear conflict is increasing as calls for regime change in Russia by the President and other administration officials seems to indicate a willingness to expand U.S. role from one of supporting Ukraine’s defense to a dangerous new one of bringing Russia to its knees through some sort of illusive "victory." This can only prolong the war and, instead of helping Ukrainians, will result in more suffering and more deaths. Finally, spending on a real fightback to the existential crisis of climate change, for badly-needed child care, family leave, healthcare, education, jobs and affordable housing — all these are being ignored and abandoned while more and more tax dollars are poured into yet another war. The only ones to benefit from that are the merchants of death – the weapons manufacturers, whose stocks are rising to new heights. The rest of us will suffer.

Brooklyn For Peace

Sat. May 21, 11:00 am–12:00 noon: Join us at this vigil in Brooklyn to call for peace in Ukraine! We’ll have a banner and flyers. While we continue to condemn Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, we also urge President Biden to change course, and going forward, to use all diplomatic tools available to enunciate an urgent call for a cease-fire and a negotiated solution. We’re very alarmed by the shift in stated US policy from assisting Ukraine’s defense to fostering an indefinite military quagmire for Russia. This is a dangerously misguided approach, certain to produce greater suffering and destruction.
